Love explained to the children (via the medium of the silver screen)

08/06/2010

Name that Tune:   “Loves just a bubble if you don’t take the trouble to make it” – Time’s a Wastin’ – Johnny Cash & June Carter

Movie Quote of the Day:     “They knew it! Time, distance… nothing could separate them because they knew. It was right. It was real. It was…/ A movie! That’s your problem! You don’t want to be in love. You want to be in love in a movie.” – Sleepless in Seattle

My afternoon in a nutshell: – the similarity to scenes from Sleepless in Seattle I do not apologise for…

Childerbeast: (while firing plastic rockets at me from Bmans old Transformer toys) “Mum.  Why are you crying”

Me: (coochied up on couch with cup of tea & snivelling into sleeve) “But don’t you see?  He was there and she ran and then the car… now she can’t walk… but he doesn’t know and she won’t let anyone tell him, and he thinks she never came and he waited and waited in the rain and she never came…

Childerbeast:  “Uh huh?!” (looking at one another like Mum has gone insane… again…)

Me:  “Now they see one another for the first time since and he thinks she is with that dude and she thinks he is with that woman but they’re not, and she doesn’t get up, and he thinks she is being rude and now he’s gone and now the wheelchair comes out and…. ‘All I could say was Hello’ … and she still won’t let the old boyfriend tell him”

Childerbeast; (while continuing to shoot things across the room) “Ooooohkaaaay”

Me:   “and then he comes and it’s Christmas and she gets the shawl from the dead Grandmother and he still thinks she’s being rude because she doesn’t get up again but her legs are all like broken and he still doesn’t know but then the painting and now look! Look! he realizes  and he goes to the other room and sees the painting and he knows… he know’s she’s in a wheelchair and the line, the line…. ‘ it was the closest thing to heaven and you were there’ and now they kiss and it’s okay and it’s so lovely”

Childerbeast:  “So nobody died?  So why are you crying?”

Me:  “this is love this is what it’s like, no-one says what they mean and other people say different stuff and it’s not clear because people hide stuff to save face and all the time gets wasted and then it’s too late and if they just said it straight form the start and if only she’d told him and if only she’d looked where she was going and….

Childerbeast:  “Uh huh… Mum! Is tea ready yet?”

Me:  (Sniff)
